About

Alpacas are a Andean camelid that was brought to Australia for its wool production and charming character. As demands in the domestic and international market fluctuated in the past years, Ambersun Alpacas had to innovate with its many animals to find an accessible market, for those that did not have a place within a financial structure of the growing business. Thus Fleurieu Prime Alpaca was founded.

The use of alpaca as an alternative to other proteins has a variety of health and environmental benefits. Alpaca meat is a rich source of protein and iron whilst being incredibly lean and most certainly palatable. Its tender texture and mild flavor lends itself to the imagination in cooking but also offers a pleasant option to those who like their meat natural. Alpacas whilst being delicious and an excellent protein alternative than market norms, carries a small range of environmental benefits as well. Their environmental footprint both literally and figuratively is smaller per capita than both sheep and cattle. Alpaca's pad like feet give them good traction on the ground but also provide minimal wear on the pasture they reside in and limiting environmental damage under foot.
